I Can't... I Can't... I Can't Stand
October 15, 2005
I still love live music, particularly live music in a smallish venue. Losers Lounge shows always deliver on the promise of a good time with such a variety of talent contibuting to their monthly artist tribute. Of particular note at this week's tribute to Stevie Wonder, Everett Bradley's Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yester-day and Jedediah Parish's It's a Shame, both shook the house with the powerful singer's soulful renditions. Amy Miles' Sir Duke and of course, Robin "Goldie" Goldwasser's I Believe When I Fall In Love both instilled Mr. Wonder's words and music with the performers own powers and styles, Amy's energetic slink and Robin's magical wonderment.
Oh and Mike Fornatele and Tricia Scotti rocked as well. No matter how great the show, no matter what new talent gets showcased and no matter what new spin someone will put on a classic, if I have to stand for hours at a time to see it, I just can't do it anymore. This was nowhere near as bad as the Bowery Ballroom show where we stood for four hours in a row. The thing is, at that show, nearly everyone stood. Looking out at the seated crowd from our vantage point at the Joe's Pub bar just made our feet hurt more. And contending with the constant flow of other standing room victims looking for a space in our line of sight made it all the more a challenge to just enjoy the show. Note to self - next time - reservations for dinner at Joe's Pub as soon as you here the Losers will be there.
